UW-Stevens Point/Marshfield men’s basketball wins two of three to end regular season

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield men’s basketball team closed out its regular-season schedule with a 2-1 record over the past week, defeating UW-Platteville at Richland 100-56 on Saturday and UW-Platteville at Baraboo 89-69 on Wednesday, and dropping a 98-86 decision at UW-Green Bay/Sheboygan on Monday.

In the win over Baraboo on Wednesday, Marshfield took a 47-40 lead into halftime.

Colton Wright (Auburndale) hit a pair of 3-pointers and Ethan Posteluk (Marshfield) added another to open up the lead for the Marauders.

Marshfield was able to build the lead to 20 and maintain that as Jack Bezlyk (Spencer) went 5-for-6 at the free throw line and hit a couple of put-backs.

Wright and Posteluk each scored 22 points, Joey Miller (Columbus Catholic) added 14, and Joe Fields (Milwaukee Obama) and Bezlyk each chipped in 13 for Marshfield.

Against Richland, Marshfield took a big lead in the opening five minutes, only to see its opponent respond with a run to cut it under 10.

Marshfield quickly built its lead back up and led 51-32 at halftime, then finished off the win with a 49-point second half that saw them hit the century mark in scoring for the only time this season.

Fields had a season-high 26 points and 12 rebounds, Posteluk added 14 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, and Sawyer Stuttgen (Colby) also had a season-high in points with 14 for the Marauders.

Bezlyk added 12, Miller 11, Jamie Lewis (Milwaukee Obama) eight, Wright and Roger Zeledon (Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln) both had five, and Matthew Roth (Colby) had three points in the victory.

Bezlyk had 26 points and 15 rebounds, Miller added 18 points, Wright scored 17 and Posteluk 15 in the loss to Sheboygan.

Marshfield (7-7, 7-6 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference) looks forward to the WCC playoffs, which begin Feb. 12, continue Feb. 15, and wrap up with the state tournament on Feb. 22-23 at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.
