SPENCER – Colby/Abbotsford used a 10-run third inning to take a big lead and hung on from there, edging Spencer 15-11 in a wild Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game Thursday at Spencer High School.

The big third inning gave Colby/Abbotsford a 15-1 lead, but Spencer chipped away and made it a ball game late.

The Rockets scored 10 runs during the next four innings, while holding Colby/Abby scoreless, to crawl to within four, but that was as close as they could get.

Emma Peavey earned the win for the Hornets, striking out six in seven innings. She came up big at the plate with four hits, including a double, and drove in four runs.

Elexa Post and Leah Cook each had three hits, and Cassidee Widmann had four RBIs for Spencer, which falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Colby/Abbotsford plays at Gilman on Friday, while Spencer is off until Saturday when it plays at the Gilman-Thorp Slamfest Invitational.
