Hot hitting pushes Neillsville past Columbus Catholic softball

MARSHFIELD – Neillsville pounded out 16 hits and took advantage of seven errors to defeat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 18-7 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game Friday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Columbus put up four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-3 lead, but Neillsville scored nine runs over the next four innings, and piled up six runs in the seventh to put away the victory.

Delaney Rochester earned the win for Neillsville, striking out four in a complete game.

Terren Stockheimer had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in two runs to lead the Warriors’ hit parade.

Bella Opelt, Kylie Boyer, Ava Mortenson and Lizzy Jorgensen each had two hits, with Mortenson driving in three runs, and Boyer and Jorgensen two each.

Hailey Zimmermann continued her hot streak at the plate for Columbus Catholic, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Alyssa Rueth had a homer and three RBIs, and Breanna Duda had two hits and two runs scored.

Neillsville (12-3, 7-1 Cloverbelt East) hosts Spencer for a doubleheader on Tuesday. Columbus Catholic (4-7, 3-5 Cloverbelt East) hosts Spencer on Thursday.
