Marshfield boys second, girls fifth at Stevens Point Cross Country Invitational

STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield boys finished second and the girls fifth at the Stevens Point Panther Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Standing Rock Park.

The Stevens Point boys easily won the team title as three runners finishing in the top five and the Panthers had 34 points. Marshfield was second with 104, four better than Port Washington.

Zach Scharbarth of Stevens Point won the boys race in 16:33, just three seconds ahead of Lukas Wagner of Chippewa Falls. Aloysius Franzen was third (16:38) and James Jacobs fifth (17:04) for SPASH.

Henry Hoerneman led Marshfield, taking fourth in 16:52. Graham Lonsdale was 23rd (18:20), Thomas Cashmer 24th (18:22), Owen Hoerneman 27th (18:28) and Jesse Messman 30th (18:41) for the Tigers.

The Auburndale boys finished ninth among the 19 teams competing. Charles Jewell was 22nd in 18:18 and Mason White Eagle 46th (19:14) for the Eagles.

Appleton North won the girls team title with 54 points, with Stevens Point second at 124 and Verona third at 126. Marshfield ended up fifth with 184 and Auburndale fielded an incomplete team with only four runners.

Nora Gremban of Northland Pines won the girls race in 19:31, 21 seconds ahead of D.C. Everest’s Sara Mlodik.

Eliana Kanitz earned a top-10 finish by taking 10th in 21:02 for Marshfield. Calleigh Kanitz was 15th in 21:42 as well for the Tigers.

Jordyn Karl led the Auburndale girls, finishing 13th in 21:29.

Ainara Sainz de Rozas of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption took fifth in 20:32.

Marshfield will be among the many teams competing at the Smiley Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Tribute Golf Course in Wausau.
