Neillsville doubles up Spencer in battle of Cloverbelt East girls basketball leaders

NEILLSVILLE – Neillsville used its normal suffocating defense to defeat Spencer 44-22 in a battle of undefeated Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball teams on Tuesday at Neillsville High School.

Neillsville is now 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division, while Spencer drops to 5-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

The Warriors held Spencer to just nine made field goals and 11 points in each half.

Amelia Trunkel and Paige Voight each scored 11 points, and Emma Moseley added nine for Neillsville.

Amber Becker scored 10 points for Spencer.

Neillsville will take on fellow unbeaten Mosinee (10-0) in a semifinal game of the Auburndale Holiday Tournament at 1 p.m. Monday. Spencer will take some time off before returning to Cloverbelt East action Jan. 3 at home against Greenwood.
