EAU CLAIRE – Marshfield will be sending six wrestlers to the state tournament, including five sectional champions, after competition at the WIAA Division 1 Individual Wrestling Sectional on Saturday at Eau Claire North High School.
The top two finishers in each weight at the sectional qualify for the 2022 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which will be held Feb. 24-26 at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Marshfield senior Ryan Dolezal earned his fourth-straight trip to state with a 20-5 technical fall over Tyler Haydon of River Falls in the 160-pound championship.
Dolezal will be joined by teammates Hoyt Blaskowski and Keagan Cliver for the third time at state.
Blaskowski (37-3), a junior, def. Blake Heal of D.C. Everest 7-1 in the 138-pound final to earn his third-straight trip to Madison.
Cliver (46-6) placed second at 132 pounds for the Tigers. He lost in the finals to Kellan Aure of Menomonie 5-3 in overtime and had to overcome a second-place wrestleback and defeated Maddox Rye of Wausau East 6-3. Cliver, a senior, also made state as a freshman and sophomore.
Also earning spots at state for Marshfield are freshman Caleb Dennee, junior Garrett Willuweit and senior Camren Dennee.
Caleb Dennee (42-8) won at the 120-pound title by injury default over Easton Cooper of D.C. Everest; Willuweit (27-4) defeated Stevens Point’s T.J. Schierl in the 152-pound championship match, 6-2; and Camren Dennee (46-3) earned a 4-2 win over Conner Seavers of Stevens Point in the 170-pound final.
Brett Franklin (145 pounds) and Cody Weix (182) both placed third, Adrian Kruger (285) was fourth, and Jace Kelnhofer (113), Grayden Rode (120) and James Clement (220) also competed but didn’t place for Marshfield.
