STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point won the boys and girls team titles at its home SPASH Panther Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Standing Rock Park.
Zachariah Vance of Oconomowoc won the boys race in 15:35.0, but Stevens Point had four top-10 finishes to take the team title with 42 points, 10 in front of Oconomowoc. Auburndale was 10th with 260 points, and Marshfield had only three runners and did not figure in the team scoring.
Owen Hoerneman was 19th in 17:26.3, Thomas Cashmer took 34th in 18:17.2 and Maxx Oertel was 61st in 19:26.3 for Marshfield.
Mason White Eagle was 31st in 18:08.7 and Charles Jewell placed 40th in 18:29.6 to lead the Auburndale boys.
Stevens Point won the girls title with 95 points, five better than Wisconsin Rapids Assumption. Marshfield took eighth with 200 points and Auburndale had just one runner compete.
Sara Mlodik of D.C. Everest won the girls race in record fashion, finishing in 18:10.3, which set a new school 5-kilometer record for Everest and was a new girls meet record.
Natalie Schrenbroch took 10th for Marshfield in 20:46.9, with Michaela Dick 42nd in 22:08.6.
Hope Schulte took 88th in 26:35.7 for Auburndale.
