Stratford volleyball tops Colby, drops conference match to Newman Catholic

WAUSAU – The Stratford volleyball team swept a nonconference match over Colby on Monday and dropped a 3-1 Marawood Conference South Division match at Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday.

Stratford defeated Colby 27-25, 25-18, 25-15, behind eight kills from Kalyn Schueller and six from Tesssa Berg.

Emerson Roy and Sonia Peterson each had 10 assists, and Ava Weix had 20 digs in the win for the Tigers.

Stratford won the opening set against Newman 25-21, before the Cardinals surged back to win the next three 25-17, 25-13, 25-20. Newman is now 2-0 and Stratford 0-2 in the Marawood South.

Schueller had 13 kills and 13 digs, and Berg had 12 kills and 10 digs for Stratford.

Peterson had 22 assists, Roy chipped in 14 assists and 12 digs, and Weix had a team-best 14 digs in the loss for the Tigers.

Stratford returns to action next Tuesday, Sept. 20, with a Marawood South match at home against Auburndale.
