Late goal lifts Marshfield boys soccer to win over Chippewa Falls

MARSHFIELD – Mathew Uphoff scored his first career goal with 14:10 remaining in the game to lift the Marshfield boys soccer team to a 3-2 nonconference win over Chippewa Falls on Monday night at Heiting Community Stadium.

Mason Horn delivered the assist to Uphoff for the break a 2-2 tie and send the Tigers (4-8-1) to the win on Senior Night.

“All in all, a great showing for us on Senior night,” Marshfield coach Jeff Molter said. “We were able to start and play all 10 of our seniors significant minutes and capitalize on their strength and experience for a nice win.”

Julian Clopton gave Marshfield a quick lead with a goal just 2:43 into the game as Michele Piferri assisted.

Chippewa Falls tied the match with 3:07 before Marshfield was able to capitalize late in the half. After a hand ball was called in the goalie box, Maahir Patel knocked in a penalty kick with just 14 seconds to go before half to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Chippewa Falls tied the game 6 minutes into the second half before Uphoff’s game-winner 19 minutes later.

Zak Meyer had six saves in the first half and Kei Rens had four saves in the second half as they split time in goal for Marshfield.

Marshfield plays a Wisconsin Valley Conference game at home against Stevens Point on Thursday beginning at 7 p.m.
