Marshfield qualifies for sectionals after placing fourth at WIAA girls golf regional

TOMAH – The Marshfield girls golf team qualified for next week’s sectional after taking fourth place at the WIAA Division 1 regional at Hiawatha Golf Club on Wednesday.

Tomah won the team regional title with a 336, with Stevens Point taking second with a 371, Holmen finishing third with a 375, and Marshfield fourth with a 389. The top four teams and top four individuals not on the qualifying teams earn spots in the Division 1 sectional at Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The top two teams and top three individual finishers not on those teams at the sectional will qualify for the 2022 WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament on Oct. 10-11 at University Ridge Golf Club in Madison.

McKenzie Holm shot a 92 to finish eighth, Brielle Lenz tied for ninth with a 93, Raina Manlick shot a 101, Lili Anaya had a 103 and Shylah Brogan had a 111 for Marshfield.

Brin Neumann of Tomah won the individual regional title by shooting a one-under par 71, one shot better than Stevens Point’s Riley Pechinski, the defending state champion.

Wisconsin Rapids’ Logan Vollert (93), Claire Ninneman (102) and Alex Cour (105), along with Onalaska’s Alex Wayss (94) earned the four individual qualifying spots for the sectional.
