Columbus Catholic’s Scheer earns runner-up finish at Athens Cross Country Invite

ATHENS – Columbus Catholic’s Isaac Scheer earned a runner-up finish and the Dons finished 11th in boys team standings at the Athens Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Erbach Park.

Phillips won the boys team title with 36 points, with Athens a distant second with 84. Auburndale was fifth with 143, Columbus Catholic 11th with 290, and Spencer took 14th in 398 at the 18-team meet.

Connor Sheahan of Athens won the boys race in 16:39.0, 34 seconds ahead of Scheer (17:13.5), who has finished in first or second in each race this season for the Dons.

Mason White Eagle took 17th (18:09.7) and Charles Jewell was 22nd (18:24.6) for Auburndale.

Spencer’s top runner was Malachai Anderson, who finished 72nd in 20:54.2.

Wisconsin Rapids Assumption won the girls team title with 51 points, well ahead of runner-up Phillips (82). Auburndale, Columbus Catholic and Spencer all had incomplete squads.

Assumption’s Lucy Dolan won the girls race in 18:34.4, with Autumn Michalski of Chequamegon second in 18:59.7 and Dolan’s teammate Jordyn Jablinski third in 20:11.4.

Hope Schulte, Auburndale’s only female runner, finished 26th in 22:38.4.

Spencer’s top runner was Rachel Nieman, who was 62nd in 24:30.6, and Sam Casperson took 86th in 26:13.7 to lead Columbus Catholic.
