Marshfield girls golf finishes eighth at WIAA Division 1 Hudson sectional

HUDSON – The Marshfield girls golf team’s season came to an end as it placed eighth at the WIAA Division 1 Girls Golf Sectional Tournament on Tuesday at Troy Burne Golf Club.

The top two teams, Tomah (362) and Stevens Point (368) advance to the 2022 WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison on Oct. 10-11. Marshfield finished with a team score of 397.

Stevens Point’s Riley Pechinski, the defending Division 1 state champion, won the individual sectional title with an even par 72, six shots in front of Tomah’s Amelia Zingler.

The top three golfers not on the two qualifying teams also advance to the state tournament. Hudson’s Olivia Grothaus (80), River Falls’ Mahlia McCane (83) and New Richmond’s Abbie Ritzer (83) earned those berths.

Marshfield’s top finisher was Brielle Lenz, who took 13th with a 92, nine shots in back of the individual qualifying spots.

Shylah Brogan had a 97, Raina Manlick had a 102, McKenzie Holm shot a 106 and Lili Anaya had a 111 to round out Marshfield’s scoring.
