MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team fell behind early and couldn’t recover, losing a Wisconsin Collegiate Conference game to UW-Fond du Lac 71-34 on Wednesday at the Marauder Gym.
Paige Albrecht led the Marauders with 13 points. UW-Marshfield falls to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the WCC.
Marshfield shot just 29.6 percent (12 of 55) and made only 4 of 28 from the field in the first half. The Marauders were 0-for-13 from 3-point range.
“Fond du Lac played a tough man defense against us,” Marauders coach Lori Galetka said. “When we would get the shot we wanted, we couldn’t buy a basket in the first half and by the time the second half came around we had a hard time digging ourselves out.”
Marshfield fell behind 38-15 by halftime.
Breanna Buerger led Fond du Lac with 23 points and shot 5 of 8 from 3-point range.
The Marauders host UW-Rock County at 1 p.m. Saturday.
