Columbus Catholic girls basketball drops Cranberry Classic championship game to Assumption

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption doubled up Marshfield Columbus Catholic in the first half and cruised to a 51-39 win in the girls championship game of the Cranberry Classic on Saturday afternoon at Assumption High School.

Assumption (3-0) pulled out to a 26-13 lead by halftime and although the Dons (2-3) outscored the Royals by one in the second half, Assumption was able to hold on for the double-digit win.

Maggie Callaghan had two 3-pointers and scored 10 points to lead the Dons. Gracie Wilczek added nine points in the loss.

Anna Schooley topped Assumption with 16 points.

Columbus Catholic hosts Neillsville for a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
