Columbus Catholic boys basketball pulls past Assumption to win Cranberry Classic title

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team used a dominant second half to pull away for a 79-68 defeat over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in the championship game of the Cranberry Classic on Saturday night at Assumption High School.

The Dons led 33-30 at halftime before scoring a sizzling 46 points in the second half to earn the 11-point win.

Emmitt Konieczny made 12 of 13 free throws and finished with a game-high 31 points to lead Columbus Catholic, which is now 2-0 this season.

Charlie Moore added 18 points and Alex Edwards chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Dons.

Ryan Shaw tossed in 22 points to lead Assumption (1-1).

Columbus Catholic returns to action Thursday for a nonconference home game against Stevens Point Pacelli.
