Marshfield baseball drops both ends of doubleheader at Chippewa Falls

CHIPPEWA FALLS – The Marshfield baseball team dropped a nonconference doubleheader to Chippewa Falls on Saturday at Casper Park, losing 7-1 and 12-1, to fall to 7-6 this season.

The Tigers were tied 1-1 through 5½ innings of the opener as Marshfield pitcher Zander Edmundson held his own against Chippewa Falls, the first-place team in the Big Rivers Conference.

The Cardinals finally got to Marshfield in the sixth, plating six runs to pull away.

Braxton Kurth had two hits and scored the Tigers’ only run, on an RBI by Ben Dietsche in the first inning. Cole Halvorsen had three hits, including two doubles, as well for Marshfield.

Chippewa Falls (12-3) carried the momentum into the second game, scoring 12 times in the first three innings and finished off the win via the 10-run rule after five innings.

Carson Matis had an RBI for Marshfield.

Marshfield will play a Wisconsin Valley Conference game at Stevens Point on Tuesday at Memorial Field in Plover starting at 5 p.m.
