Stevens Point shuts out Marshfield baseball

MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point pitcher Ty Rechner limited Marshfield to just three hits and the Tigers were bitten by eight fielding errors as it fell to the Panthers 10-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball game Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.

Stevens Point scored single tallies in the first two innings before three Marshfield errors opened the floodgates in the third as the Panthers scored five times to take control.

Stevens Point is now 13-1 overall and 7-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Marshfield drops to 7-8 and 4-4 in conference play.

Jackson Fox had three hits and an RBI, Kaleb Mayer drove in two with a pair of hits, and Ben Fonti had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored for the Panthers.

Carson Matis took the loss for Marshfield, allowing seven runs – only two were earned – in 4 2/3 innings.

Marshfield will play a nonconference doubleheader at La Crosse Logan on Saturday.
