Stratford athlete Cree Defoe earns medals at North American Indigenous Games

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, Canada – Stratford High School student-athlete Cree DeFoe competed in the North American Indigenous Games this past week.

The NAIG features 5,000 athletes from 756 Indigenous nations competing in 16 sports while also sharing and celebrating their cultures.

The games began July 16 and wrap up on Sunday.

Defoe finished second in the men’s 16-U 1,200 meters (3:21.49), third in the 16-U 2,000 meters (6:04.74) and fourth in the 16-U 800 meters (2:08.51).

Defoe will be a junior on the Stratford High School cross country team this fall. He reached the WIAA Division 3 state tournament last fall, finishing 73rd.
