Spencer girls basketball overcomes early deficit to knock off Marshfield Columbus Catholic

SPENCER – Spencer overcame an eight-point deficit at the end of the first quarter and stormed back to beat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 36-27 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Tuesday night at Spencer High School.

Columbus led 12-4 after the first period before the Rockets responded with a 13-4 run in the second quarter to take a 17-16 lead.

The Rockets extended the lead with a 13-6 run in the third quarter and held on from there to win their third straight game and improve to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Cloverbelt East.

Spencer center Courtney Schulz dominated underneath the basket, making 7 of 9 shots and finishing with game-highs in points (17) and rebounds (11). Krystal Weier added 10 points for the Rockets.

Taylor Weister had 10 points to lead the Dons, who fall to 3-5 and 2-3 in the Cloverbelt East.
