WAUPUN – Alex Edwards scored a goal just before halftime for the Columbus Catholic soccer team, which tied Central Wisconsin Christian 1-1 in its opening game at the Crusader Kickoff on Friday at Central Wisconsin Christian.
Edwards scored with 1:42 left in the first half, and CWC scored its only goal 9:55 into the second half to tie the match.
For tournament purposes, the game went to a shootout and Columbus won 3-2 to advance to a semifinal matchup with Lake Country Lutheran at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
Lucas Kreklau had three saves in goal for the Dons (2-0).
