Marshfield girls golf finishes second at final Wisconsin Valley Conference meet, ends up runner-up for the season

STEVENS POINT – Wausau East/West shot a 174 to defeat Marshfield by four strokes and claim the meet and overall team title at the seventh and final leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Golf Tournament on Monday at Wisconsin River Golf Course.

East/West won the final two meets of the seven total in the tournament to claim the overall championship for the second time in program history (2020). Marshfield ended up second after winning three of the seven WVC meets.

Talia Schlindwein also wrapped up top individual honors for East/West by winning her third conference meet with a 38, two shots ahead of Marshfield’s Brielle Lenz. Schlindwein finished no worse than in a tie for second in all of the seven WVC meets.

Lili Anaya shot a 44, McKenzie Holm had a 45, Lexxi Oertel shot a 49 and Shylah Brogan had a 51 as well for Marshfield. All five of Marshfield’s golfers earned all-conference honors as Lenz finished fourth in the overall season standings and was a first-team selection. Oertel (sixth), Holm (seventh), Brogan (eighth) and Anaya (10th) all were second-team all-WVC honorees.

Marshfield will compete at a WIAA Division 1 regional on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Hiawatha Golf Club in Tomah.
