Columbus Catholic girls basketball splits two games at Cranberry Classic

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team took third place at the Cranberry Classic at Assumption High School over the weekend, splitting a pair of games.

Columbus Catholic lost to Weyauwega-Fremont 51-50 on Friday before coming back with a 59-31 victory over Nekoosa on Saturday in the third-place game.

Sophie Wilczek, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, scored 14 points in the loss to Weyauwega-Fremont and a team-high 12 in the win over Nekoosa.

Sam Casperson added 14 points in Friday’s game, and Maggie Callaghan had 13 points on Friday and 11 points on Saturday for the Dons (2-1 overall).

Assumption defeated Nekoosa 82-6 and Weyauwega-Fremont 74-28 to claim the tournament title.

Columbus Catholic hosts Auburndale for a nonconference game on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
