Marshfield wrestling finishes second at Shawano Holiday Classic

SHAWANO – The Marshfield wrestling team had nine top-five finishes and finished second at the Shawano Holiday Classic on Saturday at Shawano High School.

Caleb Dennee won the 175-pound championship for the Tigers. He won the title match by major decision over Justin Klinkner of Two Rivers, 18-8, and improves to 16-0 this season.

Marshfield also had four second-place finishes as it racked up 215 points, just three short of champion Freedom.

Earning runner-up finishes for the Tigers were Grayden Rode at 165, Owen Griesbach at 190, James Clements at 215 and Brok Carolfi at 285.

Jon Sternweis (120), Easton Ledden (138) and Mason Seidl (190) each finished third, and Kashton Kilty was fifth (126) for Marshfield.

In the girls tournament, Marshfield won two individual titles. Ava Gardner won the 107-pound title, going a perfect 4-0 with four pins, three coming in the first period, and Erika Sleznikow won the 126-pound title with a pin in the championship match.

Marshfield will wrestle at Wausau East in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
