Columbus Catholic boys basketball pulls away in second half to top Winnebago Lutheran

MEQUON – The Columbus Catholic boys basketball team rebounded a day after suffering its first loss of the 2023-24 season with a 75-58 win over Winnebago Lutheran on Thursday afternoon at the Rick Majerus Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout at Concordia University.

The Dons led 37-34 at halftime before pulling away with a 14-point advantage in the second half to finish off the victory.

Charlie Moore made five 3-pointers and Blake Jakobi had four long balls as each finished with 18 points to lead Columbus Catholic (9-1). Cy Becker added 17 points and Lucas Kreklau had 10 in the win.

Gannan Schwartz led Winnebago Lutheran (6-3) with 17 points.

Columbus Catholic will have a week off before hosting Colby in a big Cloverbelt Conference East Division game next Friday, Jan. 5, at 7:15 p.m. The two teams are tied for the conference lead at 4-0.
