Marshfield boys basketball surges past state-ranked Ashwaubenon

MEQUON – The Marshfield boys basketball team wrapped up play at the Rick Majerus Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout at Concordia University on Friday with a gritty 58-45 victory over Ashwaubenon to finish the tournament 2-0.

Marshfield trailed 24-23 at halftime before storming ahead midway through the second half and rolling to its fourth-straight victory.

Chris Pohl scored 18 points, and Brooks Hinson and Landon Lee each added 14 for the Tigers, who improve to 9-1 this season.

Lee went 9-for-9 at the free throw line as Marshfield finished 19-for-23 overall in the game.

The Tigers also shutdown Ashwaubenon’s top scorer Drew Tomashek, who came in averaging 22 points a game, as they limited him to nine points on 4-for-12 shooting for the Jaguars (7-2), who came into the game ranked No. 9 in the Wissports.net Division 2 state coaches poll.

Marshfield hosts Rhinelander for a nonconference game Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
