Marshfield softball rolls again

WAUSAU – Andie Varsho and Taylor Varsho each drove in four runs to lead the Marshfield softball team to a 17-0 win over Wausau East on Thursday at East High School.

The victory is Marshfield’s fourth straight and improves its record to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. East falls to 0-7, 0-3 in the Valley.

Taylor Varsho was 4-for-4 and Andie Varsho was 3-for-3 with two doubles as the Tigers pounded out 13 hits.

Rhiannon Baierl extended her scoreless innings streak to 14 by throwing a five-inning shutout for Marshfield. She struck out three, walked just one and allowed three hits.

“It was another outstanding performance both offensively and defensively,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “We had 13 hits again and from the top of the order through the bottom of the order, everybody is contributing.”

Baierl also went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and Kristen Kniech was 2-for-4 for Marshfield.

The Tigers are back in action Saturday with a nonconference doubleheader against Hudson beginning at 11 a.m. at the Central Wisconsin Fairgrounds.
