Stratford pushes five relays, seven individuals through to state at WIAA Division 3 track and field sectional at Rosholt

ROSHOLT – Auburndale’s Sylviann Momont qualified in a pair of individual events and a relay, and two Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls relays teams are also moving on to the state meet after competing at the WIAA Division 3 track and field sectional at Rosholt High School on Thursday.

The top four finishers in each event at the sectional qualified for the 2013 WIAA State Track and Field Championships on May 31-June 1 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Momont won the long jump with a leap of 16-5¾ and placed fourth in the triple jump (33-8¼) to earn two of Auburndale’s four spots at the state meet. Junior Isaac Castellano also won the boys 800 meters in 2:01.32 to qualify, and the 800 girls relay team of Lakisha Sutton, Josie Stoflet, Momont and Emma Steines was fourth in 1:50.19.

The Marshfield Columbus Catholic 400 and 800 girls relays teams will move on to state after each finished second at the sectional.

The teams of Alexandra Hutchison, Rachel Roehl, Hannah Stratman and Kayla Selz were second in the 400 (52.09 seconds) and 800 (1:50.00) relays. Selz also qualified in the long jump, finishing second with a leap of 16-1¾.

The Stratford girls also had three relay teams qualify for state. The 3,200 team of Johnelle Miner, Nadia King, Brooke Schultze and Dani Bender finished fourth in 10:10.73; the 800 team of Schultze, Abby Bender, Tianna Hughes and Emily Hauke was third in 1:50.17; and the 1,600 team of Schultze, Abby Bender, Hauke and Sadia Spaeth was third in 4:12.44.

Qualifying individually for the Stratford girls were Miner in the 800 (second, 2:28.12), MacKenzie Hannan in the shot put (third, 34-7½), Abby Bender in the high jump (fourth, 5-0) and Nadia King in the 1,600 (fourth, 5:33.89).

Spencer had one state qualifier as Rachel Zastrow took third in the pole vault (8-6).

Eli Temanson will compete in four events at the state meet for Stratford. Temanson was second in the 200 (23.08) and third in the pole vault (13-0), and was part of the 400 and 800 relay teams that placed fourth for the Tigers.

The 800 team of Tate Tichy, Temanson, Phil Sersch and Kellen Bornbach was fourth in 1:35.63, and the 400 team of Hunter Kauffman, Temanson, Sersch and Jack Dahlstrom finished fourth in 46.46 seconds.

Jacob Zuelke also moved on state for Stratford by taking third in the 3,200 (10:07.20).

Malcolm Pittsley was the Columbus Catholic boys only state qualifier as he took fourth in the 200 (23.99).

The Spencer boys were shut out of state competitors. Tyler Stelson had the Rockets’ top finish, taking seventh in the shot put (45-0).
