Spencer, Stratford crown two champs at Division 3 track regionals

STRATFORD – The Stratford boys and Spencer girls each had two champions, and the Marshfield Columbus Catholic teams combined for 11 individuals and five relays which finished in the top four to advance out of the WIAA Division 3 track and field regional held at Tiger Stadium on Monday.

The top four finishers in each event qualifies for Thursday’s sectional meet at Marathon High School, with the top four at the sectionals moving on to the WIAA State Track and Field Championships on June 4-5 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Ben Robers won the pole vault (13 feet) and Matt Zuelke took first in the 1,600 meters (4 minutes, 41.05 seconds) for the Stratford boys, which tied Athens for third in the team standings. Zuelke also finished second in the 3,200 (10:45.96).

Andre Tackes also qualified in two events for the Tigers, taking third in the 100 (11.53) and second in the long jump (20-0).

The Spencer girls were led by first-place finishes from Macie Hebert in the discus (124-7) and Tara Matter in the triple jump (34-8 ¼).

Marshfield Columbus Catholic finished third in the girls standings and tied for fifth in the boys standings, but will have plenty of representation at the sectional meet Thursday.

The Dons boys had three individuals and three relays place third, and three more individuals take fourth to advance.

Columbus’ girls had second-place finishes from Elizabeth Manlick in the long jump (15-7 ¾) and Riley Roehl in the 1,600 (6:10.78), as well as the 800 relay team of Mariah Heiman, Lindsey Brandt, Abby Gotz, and Manlick (1:53.62).

The Stratford girls had six individuals and three relay teams qualify, led by Karissa Kaiser’s first-place finish in the high jump (4-10). Kaiser also was a member of all three relay teams to move on.

The Spencer boys had a pair of individuals and the 1,600 relay team advance. Tyler Kolstad took second in the high jump (5-11) and Bryan Brodziski was third in the triple jump (40-6 ¼), and the relay team of Ben Bonitz, Brodziski, Rik Van Hoof and Joshua Olson took fourth (3:37.03).
