Stratford senior Chelsey Gliniecki was one of five players unanimously chosen to the first team of the 2017-18 All-Marawood Conference South Division Girls Basketball Team.

Gliniecki led the Tigers’ balanced scoring attack at 9.3 points per game, making a team-high 51 free throws. She also led the team in rebounds at 7.1 per game as Stratford 15-10 overall and 12-4 in the Marawood South, which was good enough for second place behind Marathon.

Wausau Newman Cathoilc’s Sigen Fronek and Jadelyn Ganski, and Marathon’s Katelyn Schmidt and Alysha Stieber rounded out the first-team selections. All five on the first team were unanimous choices by the six conference coaches.

Schmidt was named Player of the Year after averaging 15.9 points per game for the Raiders, who finished 15-1 in the Marawood South and went 23-3 overall after reaching the WIAA Division 4 sectional final.

Auburndale senior Hannah Bolder earned second-team honors as she helped the Apaches to a 14-10 record and an 8-8 mark in conference play.

Bolder led Auburndale in scoring at 8.8 points per game and rebounding with an even 8 per contest.

Sophomore Natalie Aue and junior Marissa Ponshock of Auburndale, and Stratford seniors Kaylee Hollatz and Taya Nett were among the honorable mention selections.

Aue averaged 7.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, while Ponshock scored 7.4 points per game and chipped in 6.9 rebounds per game for the Apaches.

Nett averaged 7.7 points per game and made 24 3-pointers, while Hollatz averaged 6.4 points per game and topped the Tigers with 29 3-pointers made.

“All three players were very deserving of their all conference awards,” said Stratford coach Tammie Christopherson, who was named Marawood South Coach of the Year. “Chelsey led our team in scoring, rebounds, steals, and was second in assists. Taya led our team in assists and was second in scoring, and Kaylee was second in rebounding and led us in 3-point shooting.

“By working together we were able to turn around our season after a 1-5 start to end up second in conference and playing for the Division 3 regional title. These three seniors will be greatly missed.”
