Auburndale, Stratford land four players each on 2017-18 All-Marawood Conference South Boys Basketball Team

Auburndale sophomore guard Cooper Weinfurter and Stratford sophomore center Ben Barten were among the five players selected to the 2017-18 All-Marawood Conference South Division Boys Basketball Team, as voted on by the six conference coaches following the season.

Weinfurter stepped into the starting lineup this season for the Apaches and led the team in scoring at 14.1 points and assists at 4.3 per game. He also led Auburndale with 43 made 3-pointers and shot 81.4 percent from the free throw line (96 of 118) as the Apaches on the Marawood South championship with a 13-3 record (20-5 overall).

Barten was Stratford’s top scorer at 13.5 points per game and also averaged 6.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 67 percent from the field as the Tigers finished in a three-way tie for second place in the conference, one game behind Auburndale.

Wisconsin Rapids Assumption senior Joe Grundhoffer was named Player of the Year and was a unanimous first-team selection.

Marathon’s Donavon Free and Carter Hanke round out the first-team selections.

Stratford sophomore forward Vaughn Breit and Auburndale senior Cale Jacoby were second-team selections.

Jacoby averaged 12.5 points and a team-best 4.7 rebounds per game for Auburndale.

Breit averaged 11.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for Stratford.

Auburndale’s Colton Wright and Cameron Ertl, and Stratford’s Okley Wrensch and Chandler Schmidt were among the honorable mention selections for the all-conference team.

Auburndale’s Chad Weinfurter was named Coach of the Year.
