MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield men’s basketball team started quick and led the entire way, downing UW-Stevens Point at Wausau 97-87 on Wednesday night at the Marauder Gym.

Marshfield built a 10-point lead early and took a 42-35 lead into halftime.

Marshfield continued to push the tempo and dictate play.

The Marauders got a good mix of outside shooting and an inside power game to keep the Huskies off balance. When the Huskies would sink in on defense, the Marauders would kick out and hit a three. If they stayed out on shooters, Jack Bezlyk (Spencer) and Joe Fields (Milwaukee Obama SCTE) would go to work down low, Marshfield coach Jared Ystad said.

Wausau (8-4 overall and Wisconsin Collegiate Conference) climbed back to within three at 89-86 with 1:51 to go before Joey Miller (Columbus Catholic) responded with a 3-pointer for the Marauders. Ethan Posteluk (Marshfield) followed with a layup and Colton Wright (Auburndale) hit two free throws to finish off the win.

Wright finished with 23 points, Bezlyk added 21, Posteluk 19, Fielder 18 and Miller 16 for the Marauders in a balanced scoring attack.

Marshfield (5-6, 5-5 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference) will play at UW-Platteville/Richland at 2:45 p.m. Saturday.
