Columbus Catholic tennis players bounced at sectional

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic’s No. 1 singles player Chris Lamermayer was bounced from the WIAA Division 2 boys tennis sectional on Wednesday at the Boson Courts.

Lamermayer finishes his season with an 8-10 record.

Lucas Michalik, also competing for the Dons at No. 3 singles, lost both of his matches, falling to Matt Schlesinger of La Crosse Aquinas in the third-place match.

The WIAA State Individual Boys Tennis Tournament will be held June 3-5 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.

State meet qualifiers from the Columbus Sectional at No. 1 singles palyers Heitor Guelfi (19-0) of Durand/Mondovi, Matt Folstad (16-7) of Eau Claire Regis, Mike Hagen (18-9) of La Crosse Aquinas and Mac Debot (12-6) of Stevens Point Pacelli. Kyle Seyer (18-4) of Regis qualified at No. 2 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, state qualifiers are the teams of Josh Olson and Jesse Olson (12-2) of Amery, Peter Coppola and Will Reckase (22-3) of Aquinas, Ryan Kozuch and Steve Hofacker (15-7) of Regis, and Baldwin-Woodville’s Ed Rumpel and John Rumpel (16-3). The No. 2 doubles team of Quinn Chapman and Shawn Seyer of Regis also qualified.

La Crosse Aquinas won the team standings with 37 points and qualified for the WIAA State Team Boys Tennis Tournament on June 11-12 in Madison.
