Spencer softball rallies, but falls short against Athens

ATHENS – Spencer fell behind early, rallied, but lost a nonconference softball game to Athens 17-7 on Monday.

The Rockets trailed 6-1 after three innings before scoring five times in the top of the fourth to tie the game. However, Athens scored three times in the fourth and five more times in the fifth to regain control and went on to the victory.

Erika Taylor was 3-for-4 and Nicki Bruss, Paige Johnson and Courtney Schulz each went 2-for-3 for Spencer (11-7).

Spencer wraps up its regular season at home Tuesday against Marshfield Columbus Catholic and opens its postseason with a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal June 1 at home against the winner of Thursday’s game between Loyal and Abbotsford.
